So I've decided to jump on the blog bandwagon and start posting random thoughts, stories and updates on the good old interweb. I'll retroactively post some things I've written over the last few months.
For those I haven't spoken to in a while here's a brief update. After spending last summer volunteering with The Otesha Project and working briefly for the Sierra Youth Coalition I went to Benin with Engineers Without Borders. I spent five months in Benin working to set up a small scale coconut processing factory and working on to help farmers produce sunflower as an alternative to the low payout and high environmental damage of cotton. I then spent one month in Ghana training to work on a programme called The Multi Functional Platform. EWB has been working for a while in Ghana on the programme and I will soon be getting involved in Mali. The government of Mali is spearheading the program me that will bring 5000 MFPs to rural communities over the next 10 years and I'll be there to help.
At the present moment I am sitting in an internet cafe in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso enjoying Good Friday in a mostly Muslim country. Next week I will travel to Sevare, Mali to begin my new job. I am very excited. For those still in winter I can tell you it was 29 degrees at 7 am today and it is only getting hotter, but it's dry just like good old Saskatchewan.
As more updates get posted send me your feedback on what you are interested in and I will try to put it up. I have lots of stories and theories that I would love to share if anyone would like to read them. The picture is me and Enoch near Tom's house in Accra with my new salad and glasses.
Making a break for the sunshine in Ouaga,
